Something To Work For [Closed]

Married life was not as easy as she'd thought it was going to be. It was barely seven am and Amanda was awake once again to feed their newborn son, Jamie, who at only a few weeks old was still waking constantly - every two to three hours, for a feed and leaving her only to feel exhausted. She loved being a new mother, a wife, a secretary, and everything else that she was currently, but what she would do for some much needed rest right now. And here she was, sitting in the rocking chair, letting her son feed while she attempted not to fall asleep.

She loved her son and her husband, but lately things had been more strained than before between them. They had been getting more distant it seemed by the day. The fights were becoming regular things. Mandy smiled slightly as she remembered the days at the start of their relationship. They'd met through being childhood neighbours and looking back now, as she had done for a while, she believed that it was love at first sight. She was such a romantic. They'd seen each other for a while after finally getting together before making the commitment and getting married - which, apart from the day her son was born, it was the best day of her life. They'd been married just over two years now, but it wasn't the happily ever after that she had imagined it to be. And the honeymoon period in the relationship was definitely over.

Jamie finished feeding and Mandy moved him back into the cot in his nursery. There was no point in going back to sleep now. Though she was still on maternity leave, Mandy was eager to use this time off to sort out there medium sized townhouse. They both had busy lives and sometimes she felt that the house got neglected because of this. They'd fallen into the typical married routine, sharing the same bed, the same kitchen of a morning and night, before parting separate ways to go to work for the day, only to come home tired and in Mandy's case, often cranky. Maybe sorting out the house was what she needed to do as a way to relax and get her head together. And it would give her time to think of what she should say to her husband. They needed to talk. They couldn't go on like this forever. Not unless they wanted the marriage to fail. And she'd confided in her mother. Her mother who appeared to be interfering and sitting on her high horse commenting and looking down on most people. Maybe she was right though, maybe marriage counselling was what they needed.

Shaking her head, she checked on Jamie once more before heading downstairs to make herself a cup of coffee. First things first. She'd make the coffee to keep awake while she tackled the bookcase. Mandy loved reading and collecting books and though she never had time to read much anymore, she continued to buy them. They were overflowing from the bookcase now. There were some that were her husbands, but her pile outweighed his pile. While she could she'd get rid of the ones she'd never read or wouldn't read again. Make some space in the house for when Jamie got on his hands and knees and eventually his feet.

And that was what her Sunday morning would entail. Piling up her vast book collection and taking care of Jamie.
