DAVE DETHLEFS; Tumwater |
Traffic laws need to be adhered to like any other law.
I recently drove to Tacoma at the maximum speed allowed, I was passed by more than 300 vehicles, many making me think I was standing still.
No wonder today?s youth feel they can do as they wish regardless of the laws.
Since the day they began to read and compare the speed limit sign to Daddy?s/Mommy?s speedometer, they?re shown that you need not follow the law. And it seems like every generation takes their parents values and pushes them a bit further. So if Dad always goes 65 when it says speed limit is 60, I bet I can get away with 70-plus.
Parents, don?t act surprised when your teenager gets a ticket. What?s the big deal about DUI or shoplifting or theft if everyone I know breaks the law?
Laws need to be followed. The next time you are at a major intersection, count how many left turn and right turn vehicles drift across the near lane into the far lane. You must turn into the near lane, establish your position, then signal to change into the far lane.
You cannot cross a double yellow line ? heading south on Capitol Boulevard turning left into Starbucks in Tumwater.
STOP signs say stop, not slow down.
Police could probably cure our deficit. City coffers would fill if police would enforce the laws at Black Lake Boulevard and Cooper Point Road. Is the answer a mandatory drivers test every 10 years?
