The Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas has launched a mobile app that guides users on an interactive experience through the State Fair of Texas.
The app, called BIG TEXpedition, launched today, two weeks before the start of the state fair, which runs from from Sept. 28 through Oct. 21. The app celebrates Girl Scouts' 100th anniversary.
Girl Scouts and all fairgoers can download the free, interactive app that takes participants through the fair by using riddles, clues, GPS, trivia, the phone?s camera, social media and more. As app users enter the various fair locations, they will be challenged with age-appropriate questions relating to the Girl Scouts and the state fair. After completing the expedition, participants will receive a completion screen directing them to meet up with Girl Scout representatives in the historic Hall of State to receive a patch for completing the BIG TEXpedition.
?We want Girl Scouts and alumnae from across the country to come, celebrate the 100th anniversary and enjoy the State Fair of Texas with us," said Colleen Walker, CEO for Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.
The ?BIG TEXpedition? app will also have a built-in QR code scanner for use when exploring the Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Experience in the Hall of State by providing supplementary audio, video and photos.
The mobile app, developed by SpeakCreative, will have English and Spanish language support and will be available for iPhone and Android devices.

TAPPER: One of my colleagues in the Associated Press asked you a direct question, was there any direct intelligence suggesting that there would be an attack on the U.S. consulates. You said that a story - referred to a story being false and said there was no actionable intelligence, but you didn't answer his question. Was there any intelligence, period - intelligence, period, suggesting that there was going to be an attack on either the -
CARNEY: There was no intelligence that in any way could have been acted on to prevent these attacks. It is - I mean, I think the DNI spokesman was very declarative about this, that the report is false. The report suggested that there was intelligence that was available prior to this that led us to believe that this facility would be attacked, and that is false.
TAPPER: Why was there not adequate security around Ambassador Stevens?
CARNEY: In terms of the security at the Benghazi facility or post, I would have to refer you to the State Department for specifics about what security was there.
There was a security presence. It was, unfortunately, not enough to resist the attacks that we saw, and resulted in the tragic loss of life, but there was security. It is also the case that in reaction to this, the president has ordered that we review all of our security arrangements for embassy facilities and other diplomatic facilities around the world. But in terms of the specific security that was in place at Benghazi, I'd have to refer you to the State Department.
TAPPER: Wouldn't it seem logical that the anniversary of 9/11 would be a time that you would want to have extra security around diplomats and military posts?
CARNEY: Well, as you know, there - we are very vigilant around anniversaries like 9/11. The president is always briefed and brought up to speed on all the precautions being taken. But let's be -
TAPPER: Obviously not vigilant enough.
CARNEY: Jake, let's be clear. This - these protests were in reaction to a video that had spread to the region -
TAPPER: At Benghazi?
CARNEY: We certainly don't know; we don't know otherwise. You know, we have no information to suggest that it was a preplanned attack. The unrest we've seen around the region has been in reaction to a video that Muslims, many Muslims find offensive. And while the violence is reprehensible and unjustified, it is not a reaction to the 9/11 anniversary that we know of or to U.S. policy.
TAPPER: The group around the Benghazi post was well-armed, it was a well-coordinated attack. Do you think it was a spontaneous protest against a movie?
CARNEY: Look, this is obviously under investigation, and I don't have - but I answered the question.
ANOTHER REPORTER: But your operating assumptions - your operating assumption is that that was - that was in response to the video, in Benghazi? I just want to clear that up. That's the framework; that's the operating assumption?
CARNEY: It's not an assumption -
TAPPER: Administration officials have said that it looks like this was something other than -
CARNEY: I think there have been misreports on this, Jake, even in the press, which some of it has been speculative. What I'm telling you is this is under investigation. The unrest around the region has been in response to this video. We do not, at this moment, have information to suggest or to tell you that would indicate that any of this unrest was preplanned.
What is true about Libya is that - a couple of things. One is it's one of the more pro-American countries in the region. Two, it is a very new government. It is a country that has just come out of a revolution and a lot of turmoil, and there are certainly a lot of armed groups. So the fact that there are weapons in the region and the new government is not - you know, is still building up its capacities in terms of security and its - and its ability to ensure the security of facilities is not necessarily reflective of anything except for the remarkable transformation that's been going on in the region.
TAPPER: My last question, it was said that what happened at 9/11 was a failure of imagination, failure of American policymakers and counterterrorism officials to anticipate the kind of attack that could have taken place. This would seem to be the exact opposite. Was this a failure by the Obama administration? Did the president and his administration mess up in any way?
CARNEY: Jake, again, what we have seen is unrest around the region in response to a video that Muslims find offensive, many Muslims find offensive. We have seen incidents like this in the past in reaction to other actions, cartoons, and other actions that have been taken that have been - have led to protests and violence in the region.
And we have managed those situations, and we are working to ensure that our diplomatic personnel and our diplomatic facilities are secure as we deal with the response to this video, which we believe is offensive and disgusting?.I think you have to understand what is happening currently in the region and what it is a response to. This is not - this has been in -
TAPPER: No, I don't need to understand that, I think the people who protect the embassies need to understand it.
MR. CARNEY: The cause of the unrest was a video, and that continues today, as you know, as we anticipated. And it may continue for sometime. We are working with governments around the region to remind them of their responsibilities to provide security to diplomatic personnel and facilities, and we are ensuring that more resources are put in place to protect our embassies and consulates and our personnel in these parts of the world where unrest is occurring.

TAPPER: While we were sitting here, Secretary Panetta and the vice chair of the joint chiefs briefed the Senate Armed Services Committee, and the senators came out and said their indication was that this - for the attack on Benghazi - was a terrorist attack organized and carried out by terrorists, that it was premeditated, a calculated act of terror. Levin said - Senator Levin, I think it was a planned premeditated attack, the kind of equipment that they had used. There is evidence it was a planned premeditated attack. Is there anything more you can - now that the administration is briefing senators on this, is there anything more you can tell us?
CARNEY: Right. Well, I think we wait to hear from administration officials. Again, it's actively under investigation, both the Benghazi attack and incidents elsewhere, you know. And my point was that at - we don't have and did not have concrete evidence to suggest that this was not in reaction to the film.
But we're obviously investigating the matter, and, you know, I'll certainly - you know, I'm sure both Department of Defense and the White House and other places will have more to say about that as more information becomes available.

While the iPhone 5 rumors were popping, I couldn't help think this was just some kind of stretched out iPhone 4S. During the keynote presentation, I was impressed by the features but couldn't help continuing on this path: Would it just be the same??
Well, when I finally got the thing in my hand, even for a few minutes,?I was delighted to discover how different it is.
Yes, the iPhone 5 is thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4S, but not in a plasticky way that would suggest some of Samsung's smartphones. If the iPhone 4S represents the?heft and?machined precision of a handgun, the iPhone 5 has the impossible physique of a laser blaster. It's light and thin in the way that the future should be.
The matte finish on the smartphone's back is a blessing and a curse. I like that there's a lot less glass here for me to shatter, but the way it looks takes away from the pure elegance of the iPhone 4 design: Two panes of shiny glass, separated by a steel border. I find that the white iPhone 5 (above) looks a little washed out, less bold, where the black version (below)?is smarter, if perhaps more masculine than its predecessor.
The taller screen is not as gangly as I has thought, and when I saw a clip of "The?Avengers" on it, I could appreciate why the design decision was made. Movies aren't my No. 1 activity on my phone, but the 16x9 ratio is a major standard for movies and more, so it just makes sense.
There's a springiness to the phone's?interface that suggests the stomping A6 processor, but I couldn't load up anything that let me really see the polygons fly. Also, part of that smoother operation could be iOS 6, because much of it?? for instance, the Music app?? has been retooled to better interact with iCloud and iTunes.
What was a fun thing to test out, even if I never use it in real life, is the camera's?Panorama feature: You just hoist the phone aloft and pan across your field of view, and you end up with a seamless panoramic image, suitable for framing (if you're any good at photography, that is ? alas, I am not).

BANGKOK (AP) ? Asian stock markets rose Wednesday ahead of a court decision on whether Germany can support a European bailout fund created to prevent the weakest euro economies from going bust.
Confidence that the court won't block Germany's participation in the fund eased concerns generated by a warning from Moody's Investors Service that it may cut its credit rating for the United States.
The Moody's warning that it may downgrade its triple A score for the U.S. by one notch if progress isn't made next year on reducing the country's debt-to-GDP ratio had been widely-anticipated. Last year, the U.S. lost its top rating from the Standard & Poor's ratings agency. That caused markets to plunge.
Instead, investors focused on Wednesday's German court ruling on a request to block the country's approval of the eurozone's permanent bailout fund, the European Stability Mechanism, or ESM. A last-minute appeal to delay the decision was dismissed Tuesday.
"No one expects the German Constitutional Court to stand in the way of approving the European Stability Mechanism and Fiscal Compact today," said analysts at DBS Bank Ltd. in Singapore.
Japan's Nikkei 225 index rose 1.4 percent to 8,934.17. Hong Kong's Hang Seng added 1.1 percent to 20,074.18 and South Korea's Kospi gained 1.4 percent to 1,946.97.
Investors will also be keeping a close watch on developments in Athens as the Greek government meets its international debt inspectors. Greece has to convince them that it is abiding by the terms of its bailout agreement so it can get its next installment of rescue money needed to avoid a chaotic default on its debt.
Also Wednesday, Federal Reserve officials will gather for a two-day meeting. Many expect the Fed will announce a new effort to revive the sluggish economy Thursday afternoon. Some worry that the market could take a plunge if the Fed fails to deliver.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 0.5 percent to close at 13,323.36 on Tuesday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 0.3 percent to 1,433.56. The Nasdaq composite index increased less than one point to 3,104.53.
Benchmark crude for October delivery was down 9 cents to $97.08 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose 63 cents to finish at $97.17 on the Nymex on Tuesday.
In currency trading, the euro fell to $1.2858 from $1.2860 late Tuesday in New York. The dollar rose to 77.86 yen from 77.78 yen.

The Syrian civil war has been raging for more than a year and a half, and Tuesday morning a fresh face stepped into the mix, as Angelina Jolie visited the Al Zaatri refugee camp near the country's border with Jordan. TODAY's Ann Curry was on hand to find out what the actress saw, and what it all meant.
"It's been a very heavy experience, because oftentimes you come to these camps and ... very rarely do you ... meet them as they cross the border and you get to know people the moment they become a refugee," said Jolie in a press conference. "The moment they've forever lost their home, their livelihood, their education, everything they have been is gone, and when I ask them, 'What did you bring?' they say 'This' (plucks at her shirt) 'The shirt on my back.'"
Jolie has long volunteered for humanitarian causes, and currently serves as a Special Envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. When Curry asked her about the frustration she feels about being unable to reach people inside Syria, Jolie said she had been speaking for the last two days with Syrians about what they witnessed.?

"What they describe on the ground, hearing it from them, is so horrific," said Jolie. "It is a horrific situation and a very, very critical time. Outside of five cards on Fox and the upstart World Series of Fighting on NBC, MMA fans need to spend money to see fights. It's not a cheap sport to love. Between pay-per-views, cable subscriptions, tickets and DVDs, fans drop a lot of cash on MMA.
Four Cagereaders tracked their expenses on MMA and were nice enough to share them.

I wound up going out of town for the ppv so no money there.? I do subscribe to showtime so if you count that for the Rousey fight night, I dropped 15 bucks for showtime.? I think you had wanted food etc.? figure for food and beer that night, we spent another 25 bucks or so.

RJ is 34, and lives in Richland, Wash. He went to Las Vegas early in August:
Out of pocket expense is a lost wager of $50 on Bader (I really thought he'd do better plus the odds would have paid off nicely) and about $25 for food and beverage in the sportsbook.

Strikeforce: Rousey vs Kaufman - Ordered Showtime at $15 per month.? I usually wait and order in time for Dexter to start, but decided to do it earlier so I had it in time for this fight.

August 4 -- UFC on Fox- Fortunately this was a free card put on by the UFC but my group of friends and I would have easily paid for this card. The only expense for this was bringing food and soda to the viewing party at my friend's house. Total was $20 for chips, salsa, and 2 liters.
August 7 -- I was charged my monthly fee ($75) for training at the Academy of Self Defense in Santa Clara, CA. This is where I train in Muay Thai and Boxing. Being a fan of MMA, I like to train in order to learn more about the sport and understand the sacrifices these athletes make to compete at such a high level.
August 11 -- UFC 150: Henderson/Edgar- A bunch of my friends and I were in Las Vegas to watch the fights and we were charged $10 to watch the fights at a local bar/restaurant. In addition to that I also made a trip out to Wanderlei's gym because he is my favorite fighter. He wasn't at the gym that day but I did pick up another Wand Fight Team pair of shorts for $40.
August 18 -- Strikeforce on Showtime- Thankfully one of my friends has Showtime so we had a group of friends come over to watch the fights, BBQ, and drink. I spent $20 on alcohol and various foods for the event.
Random stuff -- I bought into a couple of group case breaks of UFC trading cards. Total amount of money spent on two breaks was $68.97 and I bought spots for three fighters (Dustin Poirier, Dominick Cruz, Gilbert Melendez). I ended up getting some nice cards in return.
Total for Troy: $233.97
It averages out to $119.93 per Cagereader. Personally, I spent $54.95 for the pay-per-view (which was reimbursed by Yahoo! Sports), $10 for Showtime, and around $15 for Thai food delivery on each fight night.

As sad as I am to see my unstructured time end, there is aways the excitement of new possibilities with the start of the school year.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? After all this time running to lead America, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are still trying to show they really believe in America.
Both men have made the election not just about the economy or even the American Dream, but about America itself. They see a nation pessimistic about itself and nervous about its future, hardly American traits.
They see political opportunity if they can come across as the one who gets what it means to be American, the guy who restores the glory.
What's more, for reasons quietly tied to religion or race or family roots, Romney and Obama can never do enough to shore up their own American bona fides in voters' minds.
This despite the fact that one of them will be the president next year, and one already is the president.
In the midst of their patriotic push, Obama and Romney have never overtly accused the other of being un-American.
But they spend no small amount of time raising doubts about the other's belief in America's promise, its workers, its resilience, its basic compact with its people.
Both talk about the goodness of Americans and the exceptional nature of America itself. They rarely concede that the other candidate shares that view.
Obama and Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, have vastly different visions on how to create jobs and opportunity, and that contrast in governing philosophy is a defining choice for voters in November.
They often make it sound personal, too.
"I think this election will decide the soul of America," Romney said while campaigning for the Republican nomination April. "And I have a very different view of the soul of America."
When Romney stood up at the GOP convention to accept the nomination, the theme of the night was on the giant screen behind him: "We Believe In America." The sentiment is on the side of his campaign plane, too.
The suggestion is that the other party, led by Obama, does not believe in America, and that it's chiefly Obama. He flies on an airplane, Air Force One, with "United States of America" on its side.
The believe part is implied.
In Obama's acceptance speech at the Democratic convention, he framed the election as a choice of two visions. His was the one that would "restore the values" of America. The other vision he offered was of a Romney presidency that dismisses the role of citizenship; the one in which, for example, it would be OK for children to breathe toxic pollution in the name of corporate progress, he said.
"You know what? That's not who we are," Obama said. "That's not what this country is about."
There is something to this nagging sense that America has lost its way.
Associated Press polling has not found a majority saying the nation is moving in the right direction since 2003. The richest nation on earth is divided over whether today's children will have a better standard of living than their parents do.
When the national debt surpassed $16 trillion just days ago, Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan held it up as indictment of Obama's leadership.
"That's a country in decline," Ryan said.
Vice President Joe Biden quickly turned those words back on him, working in a don't-you-doubt-America riff to his convention speech, and hitting that theme in campaign stops since.
"America is not in decline," Biden boomed. "I've got news for Governor Romney and Congressman Ryan. It's never been a good bet to bet against the American people. Never."
Obama, campaigning in Florida on Saturday, called the U.S. "a young nation with the greatest diversity of talent and ingenuity from every corner of the globe, so no matter what the naysayers may say for political reasons, no matter how dark they try to make everything look, there's not a country on Earth that wouldn't gladly trade places with the United States of America."
While the values of policies and budgets they envision are part of the debate, Romney and Ryan have never actually bet against the American people.
They are running to represent them.
Romney has even gone so far as to sing "America the Beautiful" at events. The Obama campaign used it against him in a mocking ad about Romney's record on jobs and his taxes. On Saturday in Virginia Beach, Va., Romney recited the Pledge of Allegiance at a rally, going through it phrase by phrase to suggest Obama has fallen short of its promise.
The candidates know the nation is divided politically, but not patriotically. Almost 90 percent of people called themselves "very patriotic" in a Pew Research Center poll in April.
"Patriotism is very emotional. When people are scared ? and essentially they're scared about where our country is going ? they are prone to relate to that argument," said Barbara Perry, a senior fellow who studies the presidency at the University of Virginia's Miller Center.
"Most Americans, whether liberal or conservative, fall into the patriotic category," she said, "because we all created this experiment of a country together."
Romney and Obama have their personal reasons, too.
The challenger is the first major party nominee to be a follower of the Mormon religion, which means he is subject to voter bias that hasn't budged much in decades in the United States. Nearly 20 percent of Americans say they would not vote for a well-qualified presidential candidate who happens to be a Mormon, a Gallup poll in June found.
Many voters still aren't sure about Obama's faith, either. Just under half of registered voters in a Pew poll in June correctly identified him as Christian.
Obama, of course, is the first president in U.S. history to dig up a long-form birth certificate just to prove he was born in America, and this was long after he had already been on the job. The notion that Obama was born anywhere other than in Hawaii has long been discredited, although Romney stirred it up again last month when he said "no one's ever asked to see my birth certificate."
He later said he was joking.
