I am old enough to know a wedge issue when I see one, but I?ve never seen a great party build its entire pub?lic per?sona around one. Big speeches from the heads of Planned Par?ent?hood and NARAL, HHS Sec?re?tary and abor?tion enthu?si?ast Kath?leen Sebe?lius and, of course, San?dra Fluke.
?Repub?li?cans shut me out of a hear?ing on con?tra?cep?tion,? Ms. Fluke said. But why would any?one have included a George?town law stu?dent who never worked her way onto the national stage until she was plucked, by the left, as a per?son?able victim?

She really does think???and her party appar?ently thinks???that in a spend?ing cri?sis with tril?lions in debt and many in need, in a nation in exis?ten?tial doubt as to its stand?ing and pur?pose, in a time when par?ents strug?gle to buy the good sneak?ers for the kids so they?re not embar?rassed at school? that in that nation the great issue of the day, and the appro?pri?ate focus of our con?cern, is mak?ing other peo?ple pay for her birth-control pills.
That?s not a stand, it?s a non sequitur. She is not, as Rush Lim?baugh oafishly, bul?ly?ingly said, a slut. She is a ninny, a nar?cis?sist and a?fool.
And she was one of the great faces of the party in Char?lotte. That is extreme. Child?ish,?too.
